Camera Angles and Characterization

Camera Angles:

Low Angles:

  • Typically a character shown from a low angle is seen as a superior or a bully.
  • It doesn't always mean they are a bully, it could mean they are a confident character.
  • It gives power to the character in the scene, especially if other characters they interact with are shot at higher angles.
High Angles:
  • Typically a character shot at this angel is projected as an innocent, or a child.
With these different angles you can also fool the audience. For example Lord of the Rings Gollum was originally shot at a higher angle making the audience view him as something that he was not. However, the angles lower as his true character is revealed.
